Mentoring for SECNA members

SECNA invites members to access help and guidance through virtual, group peer mentoring sessions generously supported by The City of Sydney.

How does it work?

One SECNA member receives mentoring on a topic of their choice by the group of attendees who have joined the call (SECNA Operations team, other SECNA members, industry peers, experts etc.) The session is facilitated by SECNA. Mentees are sent an email summary of the call post session.

Session format:

  • Introductions - All (5 mins)

  • Overview of mentoring topic - Mentee (5 mins)

  • Open and curious questions followed by guidance and recommendations - All (45 mins)

  • Wrap-up - SECNA (5 mins)

When are the mentoring sessions?

Tuesday 1:00-2:00pm 

Thursday 10:00-11:00am 

Who can participate?

Mentoring is available to SECNA members and others by invitation (e.g. industry experts).

Members that would prefer to listen versus contribute to the discussion are encouraged to join the session.

Discussion topic: I'd love to learn from a social entrepreneur who has been to US trade show selling product and what they've done to prepare and make it work.

3rd - Mentee: Brook McCarthy (Hustle & Heart)

Discussion topic: Partnering with organisations to uplift self-employed women in business and female social enterprise owners. I have partnered with various universities, TAFEs and vocational colleges in the past. How can I better reach SECNA members? And deliver something highly valuable and relevant to their needs?

8th - Mentee: Grazie Panlican (myTIALyf , The RiceWinner Club)

Discussion topic: I'm introducing a rice-based product for both of the 2 social enterprise and would like to know more about food business operating in AU.

Aside from the ins and out of establishing a food business, I would like to know more about marketing and how to effectively use social media to our target market.

15th - Mentee: Waheed Jayhoon (Himayat Support Services)

Discussion topic: In the past two weeks, we have entered a huge step change in our social enterprise. I'd like mentoring on how to adapt to all this change effectively and leverage external supports to maximise impact.

17th - Mentee: Anne Roze (Be SEEDsational Pty Ltd)

Discussion topic: We aim to expand into shopping centres and engage with large corporates to establish strong relationships and attract more customers by offering services that encourage greater spending.

It would be great to learn more about specific networks where our members could benefit from our offering—while also having the opportunity to support others.

  • The sessions aren’t recorded. SECNA used Zoom AI Companion to generate meeting summaries. The meeting summary is checked and sent to registered participants (only) after the session.

  • The mentoring sessions are generously supported by City of Sydney and available to SECNA members. There is no cost for SECNA members to participate in the sessions.

  • SECNA members can access support to test and evaluate or ask questions about social impact measurement tools for social enterprises through SECNA’s social impact measurement program. Find out more Social Impact Measurement — SECNA
