United Nations General Assembly call for all nations to support social enterprise

Big news! The United Nations General Assembly has adopted a resolution that recognises the value of social enterprises, and their contribution to economic, social and environmental progress.

The resolution also encourages member states (including Australia) to "promote and implement national, local and regional strategies, policies and programmes for supporting and enhancing the social and solidarity economy as a possible model for sustainable economic and social development".

Social Enterprise Australia is calling for a national strategy, co-designed by government and the social enterprise sector.

Social Enterprise Council of NSW & ACT (SECNA) is ready to do the same with the NSW and ACT governments. And the amazing people leading peak bodies in every other state and territory are ready too.

Social enterprise takes the best of business and uses it as a tool to contribute to a cleaner, greener, fairer, kinder world. This "middle way" between business and charity is one whose time has come.

We look forward to engaging in our local, state and national plans over the coming months and years.
